On a daily basis, we are faced with many choices about how to allocate our time. As many of us play many roles, from parents to spouses, students to professionals, it can be difficult to do all the things we want to do, and know we should do to be healthy and to enjoy life. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle with other priorities and commitments can be challenging, but finding your fitness-life balance is very rewarding.
What is fitness-life balance? How can striving for fitness-life balance help you to achieve optimal health? What is optimal health?
Well, fitness-life balance is different to everyone, but in principal, it is about finding an equilibrium between the things you need to do and the things you want to do, regarding fitness. The difficulty in achieving fitness-life balance is that we often look at “fitness” and “life” individually, rather than making the connection between both of them, and how they foster healthy lifestyles. Finding that balance can help you to achieve optimal health by contributing to your psychological and physical fulfillment in the sense that you have the energy, enthusiasm, and health to live a good and happy life, i.e being able to play soccer with your kids, being happy, running a marathon, or even making the time to share healthy meals with your family and your friends. Again, optimal health is different for everyone, but generally it is treating your body well on a daily basis for short-term and long-term goals, i.e eating vegetables for more energy, eating antioxidants to fight free radicals, meditating to reduce stress, and getting enough sleep. Small changes and efforts contribute to optimal health so that you can life a long, healthy, and active live.
